The African church is now larger than the church in North America. What was once the prime mission field for the church in North America is now sending missionaries to North America.
The great need of the church in Africa is for godly, educated men and women to serve as leaders and teachers. The greatest service the church in North America can perform is to support the African church in its efforts to train and equip its leaders.
Supporting theological schools in Africa makes the most sense. More sense than bringing a few students from Africa to study in North America with the good chance they may not return. More sense than investing significant funds to educate a few here rather than supporting institutions that can train hundreds, if not thousands.
Beyond the added expense, students from Africa studying in North America are not learning to apply biblical truths and pastoral skills to the needs of the African church. They need to study in an African context.
Every seminary in North America as well as Africa relies on the financial support of churches and individuals. Almost every student needs scholarship assistance.
Students at Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST) in Kenya get financial help from their families and churches but most need scholarship funds from friends of NEGST. Annual tuition for a full-time student is around $4000. Family living expenses will be even higher if the student is married and has children, but a scholarship gift to cover the tuition costs will make all the difference.
Would you prayerfully consider partnering in this strategic effort for the church in Africa by supporting a student at NEGST?
