June 2018 Updates

Fiscal year 2018 is coming to an end on June 30. We have had a record year in contributions for scholarships, faculty support, the Chet Woods Endowed Chair, library funding and specific donations to complete the interior road project. We are thankful for such generous provision.

While we have fulfilled almost all of our commitments to Africa International University – NEGST, we remain a little short on the funding for PhD scholarships. We will need $5,000 by year end to balance out for the year.

OTHER NOTES: Bishop Ken Kimiywe’s update on May 3 rd in Indianapolis was well received with over fifty people gathering to hear his comments and to ask questions. Ken is on the Governing Council (Board) of AIU, is an alumnus of the school and serves as the President of the Alumni Association.

The interior road is complete end to end with the exception of the front gate. New construction is underway on Dagoretti Road which runs in front of the campus main gate. The carriage way (road) is being widened to four lanes from two. When that construction is complete, the road contractor will build the new entry way at which time it will be appropriate to erect the new front gate. Some have mentioned hearing about further construction…and that is in regard to building bricked parking lots when funds are available. Our commitment was for the interior road, walkway and road drainage. That project is now complete. CLA is currently not involved with raising funds for the parking lots.

CLA continues its policy of not “taxing” or taking any percentage of a donor’s gift. We pass along 100% of every donation for scholarships, faculty support and all portions of our budgeted giving to AIU-NEGST. That does not mean we don’t have expenses running CLA. We look for separate gifts to fund the organization. Any donor feeling inclined to help with our operating expenses can make a separate donation or can specify their gift when sending it to CLA.

I will report more after attending the Governing Council meeting on June 29th. Thanks for making this a record breaking year. We are thankful for you and your continued support of CLA and our activities at AIU-NEGST

Warm regards,

Jim Rogers
President
