Missions at NEGST
One of the potentially overlooked functions of an academic institution like AIU / NEGST are the opportunities to actually practice what the student learns in the classroom. While the many of students at NEGST have come from, currently participate in, and intend to return to the Church, in addition to efforts by these churches, AIU provides some very specific opportunities for evangelism through explicit missions trips, for example Moyale ’25.
The Missiology Department of NEGST has gathered a group of faculty and students for a missions effort in the Shashamani region of Ethiopia, north of Kenya. Josephine Mutuku, PhD, Head of Department, describes the people in this region as “radical Muslims and Rastafarians”. She will lead the group as it leaves April 24, 2026, returning to campus on May 6. In coordination with local churches, the group will conduct street evangelism, follow ups of resultant conversations, encouragement and prayer with local believers, and a real-life combination of academic field research and practical kingdom work.
In addition to this practical experience in an academic structure, the AIU community also intends to do follow up to the Moyale ’25 trip with a return effort to the Marsabit region of Kenya amongst the Gabra people. This outreach, planned for August of 2026, is sponsored by the student organization Christian Union (CU) and is being done in collaboration with Pioneers International. This is likely to be an ongoing effort between AIU’s CU and Pioneers.
Your generous support of NEGST through CLA helps fund these mission projects. Please encourage them with a generous gift to CLA.
