NEGST Awards Degrees to 89 Students

The Rev. Dr. Nelson Makanda, Vice Chancellor, addresses the assembly.

In July 2025, NEGST celebrated the 40th anniversary of its first graduating class.  That class of five was the forerunner of this year’s class of 89!  This year’s graduates included:  22 diplomas; 35 baccalaureates, 11 MTh, 9 MDiv, and 7 PhD degrees; and another 5 post-graduate diplomas.  These 89 individuals are now further equipped to preach the Good News to a needy generation.  Many of these students are currently serving as pastors or church workers and will continue with their church, now better equipped.  Others will assume new roles as teachers and church leaders.  We thank God for His provision.

A unique yet typical example of the impact of NEGST is that of Salome Birgen, PhD, class of 2025. A native of Kenya, Dr. Birgen and her husband have served as missionaries in the Pokot region of Kenya. She completed her PhD in Missions at NEGST in July and is serving as Academic Dean at the Africa Inland Church Missionary College in Eldoret, Kenya. NEGST graduates continue to serve as faculty and leaders in Bible Colleges and Seminaries throughout Africa.

Dr. Master Matlhaope, Chancellor of AIU and General Secretary of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa.  Dr. Birgin is the Academic Dean at the Africa Inland Church Missionary College in Eldoret, Kenya.  She is pictured with Drs. In addition to the graduates of NEGST, the school of theology, the Africa International University conferred degrees on 133 graduates of the School of Business and Economics and 223 graduates of the School of Education and Social Sciences. Significant to ALL graduates and their families, this graduation week Celebrated the 40th anniversary of the first graduation including a series of lectures from current and former school leaders.  These lectures affirmed the centrality of NEGST to the University and articulated the requirement that all students from all schools take a minimum of four courses in Biblical Studies – Old Testament, New Testament, Theology, and Apologetics.  Every graduate will have been exposed to the basics of the Christian faith and how it applies to their field of study.  Each class integrates faith and learning, enabling well rounded Christians to take their place in the professions, the academy, or commerce.

Tuition and fees cover only a part of the full cost of running a University s\School of Theology.  Your contribution to CLA will help assure the current class will have the faculty, facilities, and time to complete their education.  Please support them with a generous gift to CLA.  Thank you.
