November 2025 at NEGST
CLA Student Luncheon
I was on the AIU campus in mid-November for meetings. While there I had lunch with seventeen NEGST students who are able to attend NEGST because of the generosity of Americans’ support for them given through CLA. Listening to their stories of how they came to Christ, how some are from war torn areas, and how they feel the Lord is leading them to a life of ministry was tremendously encouraging. While it is reported that the church in the West is in decline and losing its Scriptural foundations, it is clear that this community of students in the heart of the Global South is on fire for our Lord.
In this September term, of the 509 total students at AIU, 233 are enrolled at NEGST, the school of Theology. 101 of those students receive scholarship assistance through CLA. From 13 different countries, these students include 35 PhD, 30 Masters, and 36 BTh students, all studying the Word of God in an African context.
Student Prayer Groups
Not only were they studying God’s Word, they were also doing so in community. As I walked through campus that Friday morning, students were meeting in small groups, praying, discussing, and supporting one another in their Christian walk. ALL undergraduate students, whether at NEGST or the other Schools of AIU, must take at least four Bible courses – OT, NT, Practical Theology, and Apologetics. Three days per week Chapel services are alive with singing and opening God’s word. We believe Christ is building His church and He is building well at NEGST.
